Writing an Ad for Your
For Sale by Owner Home

When writing an ad for your For Sale by Owner Home, don't say too little or too much. Don't waste your money on advertising that doesn’t produce results. Compose a strong, effective description of your home and those phone calls are guaranteed to come.

The main points that must be included in all For Sale by Owner Home ads are:

Location
Number of Bedrooms
Number of Bathrooms (unless there is only one)
Garage or parking spaces
Telephone number

No add your home's unique features. What are they? A new roof? Remodeled kitchen? Hardwood floors? Almost new broadloom? Oversized lot? Large, fenced yard? A hot tub? Don't overlook anything that might be worth mentioning.

Beyond those, think about what it is that you really love about life in your home? What made you want to move in when you first saw it? Perhaps it was the cozy, wood-burning fireplace or that wonderful view from the bedroom window?

When writing an ad that's supposed to sell your house, keep it simple. Pretend you are describing your home to a friend who has never seen it. Tell the friend where it is, how big it is, what its main features are and what you love about it that makes it so special.

Write out everything as you would say it to that imaginary friend. You will probably end up with way too many words, and such an ad would be very expensive. Now you edit, eliminate all that is not really important. Keep only the features you feel will appeal to the greatest number of people.

When done, you will have created the perfect ad for your For Sale by Owner Home.
